Well I am. Tomorrow I go back to SoCal. I am beside myself because not only did France lose the World Cup, but the way Zidane went out. What was that all about. I was so disappointed. Bollocks. I watched Saturday's and Sunday's match here at this place, The Starry Plough. They had good food, too.

Hey baby, its the Fourth of July
Ok, for years my own personal 4th of July tradition was to take my X, See How We Are cd and play that song over and over a few times. Then I would think of the band and the idea of Mexican kids lighting fireworks below. Then, one year, I couldn't find my cd. I had the case but the cd was gone. I found it when I finally moved to Finland and stupidly took some 5 disc behemouth cd stereo which was so old in was only usable on American voltage. After a few sparks, I was able to pry the cd trays out. Lo and behold, there was my X cd. Thus, my old tradition was reignited. Oh, so, here I am in the USA on the fourth without my cd. Now it is the fifth actually, and it was nice to be with my family. The fireworks were low key because of all the regulations now placed on them. Plus, there was the 10pm curfew which stopped us but not some of our neighbors. I would say that fireworks sure aren't what they used to be, but as our neighbors had some spectacular displays, it seems that in some countries they are.

Ok, Carmelita, serve me up some Gizzards
Yes, honey, I was down on Alvarado street at the Pioneer chicken stand. I really really wanted to grab an order of gizzards but I had some people to meet. I wonder if they still serve gizzards? I should have peeked at the menu, but well, I was occupied. Oh Little Red Riding Hood, how i wanted to speak to you more.It was difficult being so close and not getting more interaction with you.
Union Station
Soon after I arrived here, I was able to meet a very important group of people. My uber friends who really keep me in touch with my human side. We met out in Hollywood and this was my first glimpse in 3 decades of Los Angeles' Union Station. It was pretty. The metro stations were clean they had massive free clean restrooms. It made me think of the hideous Malmi train station back home and not in a nice way. Oh, if they would only invest a few extra Euros in cleaning that place up.
Azusa, baby!
Ok. So, back to what I was saying before. I am back in Azusa, California, my hometown. I went to Azusa not Gladstone. Damn it has been hot.
He is totally smiling at me
This is John Irving, author of one of my favourite books, "The Hotel New Hampshire". The Finn happened to notice that he was going to be making the rounds. We caught him at Akateeminen kirjakauppa. In his new book, "Until I Find You", his character goes through Finland. He talked about his grandfather who played women's roles during WWII. I don't think the interviewer who is the Finnish translator actually translated this to audience. He apparently based the main character Jack on some aspects of his grandfather. He talked about how there are more photos of his grandfather in drag than in men's clothing. He was really great and their were tons of people there.
I love my Canon Powershot A620
I have been using the macro quite often. My latest thing was going out, finding insects, and taking close ups of them. It really grosses me out but I love it. It is sick. I have tons more photos of them in the Creatures set on my flickr page.
Makasinit, The aftermath
The whole country remebers when the makasinit were torched. I finally made my way down there to check it out. Crazy fuckers, I swear. These people who burned this are stupid. So, the building in the backgound is Finlandia Talo which was designed by the famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto.
Lunch with the girls after graduation
So, I forgot to mention. I graduated from that talouskoulu (home ec) course I was taking for the last 5 months. Basically, this was the last time I'd be in a työvoimatoimisto intergration program and taking classes for it. I applied to practical nurse and nursing programs for next year. Anyway, these are some of my classmates having lunch after our graduation ceremony. I think they are nice and all but I am not the stay in touch type.
Typical Finnish Birthday Cake
I forgot to mention that I made this sucker. It looks good, huh. It was good. It was the ancient Finnish secret recipie. Ok. So, everybody in Finland knows how to make these cakes, just like how they know how to open a can with that crankless wheeless Finnish can opener.
This way out of Stocko.
This is one of last photos I took before I left Helsinki. I miss it. I feel like I am missing all these activities that are going on over there, like gay pride Helsinki which just happened. Well, I would have probably been lazy like I was the day of the Samba festival and not gone out for it.
Welcome Back, Chica
Odele pues. I am back in my hometown for the rest of the summer. It is nice to see the family and meet friends. I have just been hanging out and watching the world cup whenever it is on. Well, in this town that is about all you can do.
