Author Frank McCourt at Akateeminen kirjakauppa
Here is Frank McCourt, authour of "Angela's Ashes", "T'is", & "Teacher Man" signing books at Akateeminen kirjakauppa in Helsinki Finland.
Before he signed books, he was interviewed which made for a funny and entertaining discussion. I got my book signed and took many photos which I will be uploading to Flickr soon.
I have one complaint about the bookstore. They don't do one thing to make it easy for people to gather and listen to the authors. They don't move any of the furniture whatsoever. So, people are squeezed into these narrow aisles. Then, when it is time to form a queue for the signing, people just mash together from these different aisle instead of making one line. There are no guide ropes and minimal organization. It sucks. The need to make more of an effort when they have authors come in. They need to move some of those behemouth book tables so that people can fit. They need to direct people into one line. Most importantly, they need to order and display enough books so that people don't have to run all over the store trying to find a copy of the books. It is quite ridiculous. Do they want sales or not? I don't get it. It is as if they started doing this yesterday and nobody has a clue on how to organize such a thing. Bloody irritating...

Jenkki Snacks
The Finn told me the other day that the Pikkolo market in Pasila train station had a section of American foods. I had time and so I took a look. I found that these foods were mainly of the 1000 calorie 'snack' variety. I am not usually a craver but I left with a box of mac n cheese, peanut butter, and pancake syrup. The oreos which were tempting cost around 9€. I passed on them.
Flocks of Geese
So far, nearly everday, I have seen flocks of the geese flying either to their daily watering hole or to their nightly resting ground in Vantaa or Helsinki. It is quite something to hear there honks and then see their formations fly overhead. Yesterday, we heard them and then suddenly right above us the quickly changed directions followed secons later by many little thuds against metal railings and the dirt. After investigation we determined that they all took a major crap just a few feet from where we had been standing. The ground was littered with turds.

Bathing suit optional
I finally went to Yrjönkatu Swimhall where bathing suits are optional. Of course, women and men have separate days when they can go. Uhm, it was different. It was a bit odd swimming behind somebody who was not wear a suit. I was wearing my eyeglasses so thank the OFBL that I couldn't see anything underwater.
